Today we arrived at the Derwent Hotel in Torquay. After the tiring journey we relaxed in our rooms and unpacked our bags. Afterwards we had a large dinner before heading to the Starlight Lounge. We sat and had a drink whilst listening to the evening's entertainment., a male duet called Notable. Some of us danced while others watched. After the long day travelling we had an early night ready for the week ahead.
First we had a lovely breakfast in the hotel before getting ready to go out. We took a walk along the seafront to the Sea Life Centre. We had lunch in a local cafe before returning to the hotel for dinner. This evening some of us played bingo but sadly none of us won ! After bingo we watched the evenings entertainment, Steve Laister, a singer and comedian.
Today we drove to Paignton seafront to go shopping. We bought postcards, fudge, bags and various souvenirs. We had a walk along the seafront to the pier and then had traditional pasties for our lunch. We then headed back to the hotel and spent the rest of the afternoon swimming in the lovely hotel pool before another evenings fun playing bingo and listening to the entertainment.
After another lovely breakfast we headed off to Paignton again where we caught the steam train to Dartmouth. We had lunch in the station cafe and then took in the sites of Dartmouth town and did some shopping. After we had returned to the hotel some us went swimming again while the rest of the group decided to go and have a walk round Torquay harbour. After dinner we spent the evening dancing at the hotel disco.
Today we all went off to the Zoo. The first animals we saw were the big cats! The lions were sleeping in the sun. We moved on and then saw Owls, Pelicans and lots of other birds. After a bit more exploring we stopped for lunch and enjoyed our picnic in the sunshine. After we'd all rested we then went and walked through Lemur Wood which is where we saw Lemurs and Orangutans ! By this time we had worked up a need for ice creams and while enjoying them a Peacock shook out his plume and showed us all his feathers, it was beautiful. After our ice creams we went off to see all the Safari animals including rhinos, giraffes, cheetahs and elephants! We then went onto the reptile house before some much needed shopping in the gift shop :) After our busy day we went back to the hotel to freshen up before dinner and then spent the evening enjoying the hotel entertainment.
Today we had a trip to the Living Coast Centre where we saw seals being fed with fish! We also saw penguins, otters, jelly fish and stingrays! After lunch some of us went for a walk along the sea front while others went back to relax at the hotel.
Before dinner we all had a swim and then we spent the evening watching a Magician in the hotel lounge.
After breakfast we went off to explore a pretty little village called Cockington. We took some group photos by the old thatched houses and looked around all of the craft shops. After all our shopping we went and had a traditional cream tea and argued about whether it was jam or cream first :). We then headed back to the hotel for some relaxation before packing our bags ready for tomorrows departure. After dinner we all did a bit of dancing and Hazel, Jenny & Lorraine all had a slow dance with the entertainer !
After a leisurely breakfast we all checked to make sure we hadn't left anything behind before departing. We had such a lovely time visiting Torquay and the surrounding area and are looking forward to coming back again.
