Saturday 18th June
We arrived at our hotel in York. After unpacking we met up for dinner
which we thoroughly enjoyed. James is looking forward to visiting York
Minster tomorrow. |

Sunday 19th June
Today we had a lovey day out in York, visiting York Minster, which is
the largest of its kind in Northern Europe. York old town had lots of
little teashops. Later we got all dressed up for dinner and Jenny wore
her favourite trousers. |
Monday 20th June
Today we visited Goathland village and parish in the
Scarborough District of North Yorkshire. It has a steam operated railway
line. We also visited 1960’s period series “Heartbeat” location filmed
from 1991-2009. We visited the most famous locations in Goathland
including the Hotel, the garage and a few shops. We took pictures of the
Abbey of Whitby ruin a Benedictine Abbey overlooking the North Sea. It
was disestablished during Henry the VIII’s Dissolution of he
Monasteries.

Tuesday 21st June
Today we did the Emmerdale tour, Yorkshire Dales and Esholt. We had
lunch at the “Woolpack’ pub, walked to the church and post office. James
enjoyed his burger at the pub. We walked directly above the lovely spa
town of Ilkley. There was a chance to buy souvenirs. |
Wednesday 22nd June
We visited the summer wine exhibition and gift shop in Holm Faith. This
is dedicated to the world’s longest running T.V comedy. It’s inside
Compo’s house! We saw an incredible range of photographs and display
information capturing the many characters. On our way there we saw lots
of dry stone walling, beautiful cottages and Pennine moorland. |

Thursday 23rd June
“All creatures great and small.” James Wight wrote under the pseudonym
of James Herriot, popular writer of the 20th centaury. We all visited
Think-North Yorkshire, a historic market town and museum full of books
and life. The 1940s period house was the original practice of James
Herriot. In the evening we had dinner out at the Toby Carvery. We are
going home tomorrow but we all enjoyed our holiday. |
