Sunday 21st May

We all met at Gatwick Airport ready for our flight to Prague. John was looking forward to his first time on a plane and he really enjoyed it as he had a window seat. As it was a clear day he had a great view. Our flight only took one and a half hours and we soon arrived in Prague. After a short taxi ride we arrived at our hotel tired but looking forward to the holiday ahead.
Prague
St Vitus Monday 22nd May

This morning over breakfast we chatted about what we would like to do and the places we would like to see. We then went on a tram to the Castle. We stopped on the way up the steps in a lovely cafe with fantastic views. Our next visit was the amazing St Vitus Cathedral, the largest church in the Czech Republic. The coronations of the Bohemian kings was held here until the mid 19th Century. Today it is the seat of the Archbishop of Prague and the final resting place for Kings, Princes and Saints. It also holds the Bohemian Crown Jewels locked inside the Coronation Chamber. We visited the Old Royal Palace with it's magnificent Hall, Golden Lane, fabulous shops and the dungeons Daliborka.
Tuesday 23rd May

This morning we woke up to lovely sunshine. At breakfast we chatted to a Norwegian man who had come to see the group Deep Purple. After breakfast we took the tram down to the river and saw the dancing building built in 1996. The building looks like a couple dancing and has been christened "Fred and Ginger". We had a walk along the river before having lunch by the river. We then went for a cruise along the river Vitava seeing the sights including the St. George bridge and enjoyed a coffee and cake onboard. The river Vitava is the longest river in the Czech Republic. In the evening we had an early dinner before heading to the theatre to see The Black Light production of Afrikania, which was fantastic.

Clock Wednesday 24th May

We had an early start today as we were picked up ready for our tour of the city. We started the tour by bus, seeing the main sights of Prague. We were then dropped off at the castle where we were given a brief history and then walked to Nerdova and it's wonderfully named houses such as 'the 2 suns' and 'the 3 fiddles'. We visited the John Lennon wall, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and the Astronimical Clock. Our guide was very informative and interesting. Jo loved the gingerbread shop and visiting Nerdova Street and would love to come again. Once the tour was complete we were exhausted but we stayed to see the clock working. The clock had a figure of Death who rang a bell and inverted his hourglass. We then had a late lunch followed by a visit to the chocolate museum - Yum! John enjoyed the Castle tour, having a lovely lunch and ice-cream. However, the chocolate factory was his high light.  During the day John and Jo rubbed a plaque where it is said Wencellas IV had St John thrown out for refusing to divulge the Queen's conversations. Which the legend says means you will return you to Prague!
Thursday 25th May

Today for our last full day in Prague John and Jo said they would like to visit The National Technical Museum and go shopping. So, we caught the tram to the museum and John thought it was 'out of this world'. He loved looking at all the planes, old cars, steam trains and old bicycles. Jo really enjoyed it too especially looking at the old cameras. It was soon   time to head off to go shopping. Again we caught a tram this time to Wenceslas Square and looked around the market stalls. John and Jo each bought a new bag and various other gifts and souvenirs to take home. All the walking had given us tired feet so we caught the metro back to the hotel. In the evening we began our packing and then went out for a lovely traditional Czech meal.
