Tuesday 5th
June
We arrived at the president hotel in time for a cup of tea. We
were pleased to hear that this was the hotel where the Beatles stayed
when they first went to London. It was very nice. After a cup of tea we
unpacked and we all wanted to watch the Queen’s jubilee speech on TV.
After that we went out for dinner. We did not need to walk far before we
found a large number of places to choose from. We fancied the Italian
one and were very pleased with our choice. Especially the lovely
deserts. By the time we got back to the hotel it was time for bed.
Wednesday
6th June
We had a leisurely breakfast with a wide choice of food
available and then hit the shops. After that we got the bus tour and
went first to Green Park and had lunch in a pub. We walked to the next
part of the bus tour and then after passing Big Ben and Westminster
Cathedral we got to Tower Bridge and caught a boat for a trip on the
Thames. After that we got back on the bus and returned to the hotel in
time to have tea and change for the theatre. We got taxis to the theatre
and saw ‘Wicked’. It was brilliant. We got taxis back to the hotel and
then had sandwiches and crisps and drinks
Thursday 7th June
We got up early and went to get the bus to see the changing of
the guard. We had to wait a while but we got there in the end and had a
very good view. There was no entrance to the area by the palace due to
the removal of the stage from the jubilee concert. We saw a marching
band and every one was clapping It was great fun. We had lunch in a pub
then did a further tour on the bus getting off by Tower Bridge to look
for a cup of tea. It rained and we could find no where under cover so we
got taxis back to the hotel for tea and cakes. We got changed for
another night out. A medieval banquet.
We
got taxis to St. Katherine’s dock where we were welcomed by our hosts.
Most of us dressed up in period costumes and we were soon joining in the
fun of the evening. When we wanted a drink we had to shout “wench”. When
they danced or sang we had to bang our fists on the table instead of
clapping. The singing and dancing were great and the acrobats were
amazing. The food was lovely, 4 courses so we all tucked in. We had to
drink our soup out of our bowls. What fun. At the end of the meal we had
time to dance for a while before getting taxis home.
